Pre-Primary Program

Our Pre-Primary Program is designed for children approximately 24 months to 36 months.
The "period of practical life" ranges in age from one to three years. This is the time when the child's real experiences in life give him confirmation that he is a capable, valuable individual. By participating in the daily activities of family life (for example: washing fruits and vegetables, setting the table, clearing the table, washing up, watering plants, watering the garden, sorting laundry, folding laundry, putting laundry away, sweeping, dusting, etc.) the child learns he is a valued contributing member of the family unit and his class. Given responsibilities the child learns self-control and self-limits. Once this foundation is laid, future learning for children is easier. They have a positive self-image, they trust themselves and their abilities to function in their world.
During these first three years, the child's self-confidence in language usage is developing. Communication means to receive information and to respond. The more we talk to a newborn and the more we listen to a growing child the more he will attempt to communicate. The child will take in whatever language or languages are heard in his environment during these early years. He needs to hear, from the very beginning, precise, enunciated language of people talking to each other and to him.
Environment
Our Pre-Primary area has been designed to blend the world of the Toddler into our Primary classroom. The room is bright and cheerful with selected toys and educational equipment to aid in the development of the child. We offer the older toddler a large variety of items with which he will learn new skills and plan activities to stimulate the child's growing imagination.
These children have access to both our toddler play yard and the main play area. The outside play area contains: balance beams, balls, a playhouse, trikes, sand boxes, slides and swings.
Staff
Senior staff are required to have training in the development and education of young children. All staff members are required to be trained in infant and child CPR. Our staff to student ratio is approximately 1:6. |
